Helle works as an Advisor in the HSEQ (Health, safety, environment, and quality)-department at SEA1 Offshore’s headquarter in Norway. The HSEQ-department is an integral part of the Company and all hseq-activities run parallel to the commercial and operational aspects of the company. The HSEQ policies state that we shall strive for zero harm to personnel. We are committed to protect the environment and minimize the negative impact from our operations.
What is your role in SEA1 Offshore?
In my role as an HSEQ Advisor, I see myself as a facilitator and I currently work with the development of our Business Management System, and the processes in how we work. We support our vessels in their daily operations ensuring safety is the top priority onboard. Incidents and accidents will happen, and my responsibility is how we work with these and how we learn from them. In the HSEQ department, we facilitate the continuous improvement of how we work- that is the essence of HSEQ.
What is the most exciting part of your job?
I love that we are an international company and I like the way we collaborate across departments and branch offices. We are small enough so we can work closely, yet also operating across the globe. We are given the opportunity to create diverse relationships, learn about different cultures and differences, and still work towards a common goal. What we want – at the end of the day – is for everyone to return home safely.
How has your journey been since you started?
From when I started until now, I have learned so much, and it has been a big development for me personally. It is incredible to be included in such exciting work every day. We are presented with the opportunity to take part in new activities, and there is room to bring forward input on how we should proceed to solve things. I enjoy working in the HSEQ department because it is a positive and proactive team. We come from different backgrounds; hence we contribute with different knowledge and perspectives. We all work with individual "pillars", but there is a low threshold for reaching out. Being part of the hseq team at work is a great feeling.
If you should give a new employee in SEA1 Offshore a word of advice, what would it be?
Say YES! If you get an opportunity, don't be afraid to take it. There are so many good people herewith a lot of knowledge and having the courage to ask and take a seat at the table is important. You will be supported on the way forward if you dare to say yes.
